Hiking in Chamonix takes you through the heart of the French Alps, where dramatic peaks rise sharply above lush valleys and glaciers carve through the landscape. Trails weave past alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, and traditional mountain villages, all under the shadow of Mont Blanc. With its striking scenery, crisp alpine air, and a mix of rugged and refined charm, hiking in Chamonix feels exhilarating, scenic, and unforgettable.

Your adventure begins as you arrive in the Alps, where transport will be arranged to collect you from Geneva. It’s well connected to Europe, making your journey smooth and hassle-free. The meeting point, where we will start our journey to the mountains is in the city centre. The transfer will leave at 3pm and takes around 1 hour (you can also arrived directly to Chamonix if that’s more convenient for you). If you arrive before this time there are several luggage storage places so you can use the time to explore Geneva. If you’re arriving a day early, we can suggest excellent accommodation options to ensure a relaxed start to your journey.
For the duration of the trip, you’ll be based in Chamonix, nestled high up in the mountains. This means you won’t have to carry all your belongings from place to place, and after each day of hiking, you’ll return to the comfort of a warm shower and a cosy bed. Get ready for an unforgettable week exploring one of Europe’s most spectacular mountain landscapes.

Start your day with a breathtaking visit to the Aiguille du Midi (3,842 m), taking in spectacular panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the surrounding peaks, and the Vallée Blanche. After descending to the Plan de l’Aiguille, begin the Grand Balcon Nord hike, a classic Chamonix trail offering stunning vistas of the Mer de Glace glacier and the Mont Blanc massif. The trail gently winds through alpine meadows and rocky sections before descending to the Montenvers Station. From here, hikers can enjoy a snack, explore the glacier viewpoint, and descend back to Chamonix via the Montenvers train, adding a scenic and relaxing end to the day.

The hike to Aiguillette des Houches is a Chamonix classic, offering one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the valley. The trail starts from the village of Les Houches or the Col de Voza area and climbs steadily through pine forest and open pastures, with glimpses of Mont Blanc appearing between the trees. As you gain height, the views open wide over the entire massif — glaciers, ridges, and distant peaks filling the horizon.
The final section follows a rocky ridge to the summit of Aiguillette des Houches at 2,285 meters, marked by a small cairn and 360-degree views that take in the Mont Blanc range on one side and the Aravis mountains on the other. It’s a stunning place for a picnic or a long pause in the sun.
The descent can be done the same way or as a loop via Bellachat, with varied scenery and a chance to spot ibex on the slopes. This trail captures everything that makes the Chamonix valley special — big alpine views, peaceful meadows, and that feeling of standing right across from Mont Blanc itself.

Starting directly from Chamonix, the hike to Lac Blanc becomes a true full-day adventure, climbing from the valley floor through forest, meadows, and high alpine terrain to reach one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the French Alps. The trail begins near Les Praz or Les Bois and follows a steady uphill path through larch and pine forest toward La Flégère, where the trees give way to wide views of the Mont Blanc range.
From La Flégère, the route continues on rocky switchbacks and open slopes, with the panorama growing larger at every turn — glaciers, jagged peaks, and the white dome of Mont Blanc rising above the valley. The final approach to Lac Blanc reveals its shimmering turquoise water and the famous reflection of the surrounding mountains.
After a rest or lunch by the lake (and perhaps a visit to the refuge), you can descend the same way or loop back via the Grand Balcon Sud trail for even more breathtaking views. It’s a demanding climb but one of the most rewarding hikes in Chamonix, offering everything from forest calm to high alpine grandeur.

A free day in and around Chamonix is the perfect chance to slow down and enjoy the valley’s relaxed side. Take the Aiguille du Midi cable car early in the morning for incredible views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding glaciers, or ride the Montenvers train to the Mer de Glace and explore the ice cave or mountain museum. Both are unforgettable experiences that require no hiking, just a sense of curiosity and time to take in the views.
Back in town, wander through Chamonix’s charming streets, browse the local shops, and stop for coffee and pastries at a café by the river. You can visit the Alpine Museum or relax at one of the spas and wellness centers that overlook the peaks. In the afternoon, rent an e-bike or take a short drive to nearby villages like Les Houches or Argentière for a quiet lunch with a view. Finish the day with a glass of wine on a sunny terrace as the light changes on the mountains — a calm, easy day surrounded by the beauty of the Alps.

The hike to Refuge Albert Premier via the Charamillon mid-station is a classic Chamonix route that offers big mountain views without the need for a full alpine climb. Starting with the cable car from Le Tour to Charamillon, the trail gently ascends through open meadows and rocky slopes, with constant views of the Glacier du Tour and the high peaks of the Mont Blanc range.
The path is well-marked and never too steep, making it a great option for a moderate day in the mountains. As you approach the refuge, the scenery becomes more dramatic — ice, rock, and snow filling the horizon. The Refuge Albert Premier itself sits on a ridge at 2,702 meters, offering a panoramic view across the glacier and down the valley.
It’s the perfect balance of effort and reward: a steady, scenic climb to one of Chamonix’s most beautiful high-mountain settings. Stop for lunch or coffee at the refuge before retracing your steps to the lift for the return to Le Tour.

The hike through the Vallon de Bérard to La Pierre à Bérard is one of the most peaceful and picturesque routes in the Chamonix Valley. Starting from Le Buet, the trail follows a gentle ascent along a clear mountain stream, winding through pine forest and open alpine meadows filled with wildflowers in summer. The sound of rushing water and the scent of the forest make the first stretch especially tranquil.
As the valley opens up, steep granite walls rise on both sides, framing distant views toward the Aiguille du Buet and surrounding peaks. The path crosses wooden bridges and small cascades before reaching the Refuge de la Pierre à Bérard, a cozy mountain hut sitting in a wide cirque beneath dramatic cliffs.
It’s an ideal moderate hike — varied, scenic, and rewarding without being strenuous. Stop at the refuge for lunch or a drink while taking in the views of waterfalls and high ridges before returning the same way down the valley. On clear days, it’s one of the most charming and atmospheric corners of the Mont Blanc region.

After an incredible week exploring the wild beauty of the Alps, it’s time to pack your bags and begin your journey onwards. Transport will be arranged to take you back to Geneva. It’s recommended not to book a flight too early on the final day to give yourself time to get back to the airport.
If you’re extending your stay, there are plenty of incredible places to explore beyond the mountains. We’d be happy to share recommendations to help you make the most of your time.
As you leave Chamonix behind, you’ll take with you memories of dramatic peaks, glacial lakes, and unforgettable adventures in one of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes. Until next time!

EXCELLENT Based on 79 reviews Posted on Google TH WWTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Well-designed and varied itinerary. We joined the first Sardinia tour with Garry, who accompanied the group throughout—clear attention to detail and strong collaboration with the local guide, Sergioooooooooooo. (Must pronounce his name in this way) The guide was knowledgeable and attentive, offering detailed insights during hikes while making sure everyone was comfortable. Accommodation was consistently good, and the traditional mountain shepherd dinner was a standout. I joined with a high school friend who flew across the Atlantic—worth it. The group bonded quickly despite different backgrounds. A strong choice if you want a hiking-focused trip with like-minded people.Posted on Google Chiao ChangTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Absolutely loved my first trip to Morocco through Trailmates Adventures. I’ve looked into other solo traveller group tours before but none ever ticked all the boxes until now. The entire trip felt like a hiking holiday with like minded friends - fun and interesting. Some friendships will last a long time, and some just shared moments. Great itinerary, well planned out, and adaptable depending on fitness levels. Communication was really good and straightforward, from both the organisers and the trustworthy local guides. Overall it was an incredible experience that exceeded expectations, and I am looking forward to booking my next trip. Our trip to Madeira was amazing. Trailmates Group organized a wonderful hike. This was our first group tour and our first hike ever, and now we'll definitely be going on more with this company. Firstly, the price was reasonable and the quality matched our expectations. Secondly, the tour was the perfect difficulty level and suitable for travelers of all fitness levels. The idea of traveling just for the hike was the most important thing for us, as we wanted to fully enjoy the hiking and nature. I'd also like to point out that Harry was always available, which gave us a sense of security. A huge thank you to our guide, Paolo – he's very friendly, has a clear itinerary, and does his job 100%. The other members of our group are wonderful, engaging people. We're so glad we met them, and they'll remain etched in our memories. Thank you, Trailmates, for Madeira, and we'll see you soon!Posted on Google Agnieszka JaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I liked the hikes in the Atlas Mountains and my fellow travellers in the group were great, too. I highly recommend it. :)Posted on Google Natasja HoexTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
