This classic Dolomites hike explores high pastures, dramatic passes, and some of the most photogenic scenery in the Marmolada range. Starting from Passo San Pellegrino, the trail climbs gently into the Valfredda Valley, a sweeping basin dotted with barns and alpine meadows.
From here, the route continues upward toward the striking red rock of Forca Rossa (2,490 m), once a World War I front line and now a panoramic pass with views over the Pale di San Martino and the Marmolada glacier. After a pause to take in the panorama, the descent leads into the Fuciade Basin, framed by jagged Dolomite peaks and known for its traditional mountain huts.
The final stretch returns to the starting point, completing a varied loop that balances historical interest with some of the most beautiful alpine scenery in the Dolomites.

Set in the heart of the Catinaccio Group, Lago d’Antermoia is one of the most enchanting lakes in the Dolomites, lying in a stark amphitheatre of pale limestone peaks. Starting from Passo di Carezza or Campitello di Fassa (several access points are possible), the trail climbs through larch forests and alpine pastures before entering a rocky world of high mountain paths.
The route ascends toward Passo Dona and Passo delle Ciaregole, opening views across the Val di Fassa, before the final approach reveals the turquoise waters of Antermoia tucked beneath sheer cliffs. A nearby refuge provides the chance for rest before retracing the path or continuing on a longer circuit.
The return completes a demanding but spectacular day, with contrasts of woodland, meadow, scree slopes, and high alpine lake. For many, this is among the most unforgettable hikes in the Dolomites.

This loop combines three of the Dolomites’ most iconic landmarks: the jagged towers of Cinque Torri, the panoramic summit of Nuvolau (2,575 m), and the striking Averau (2,649 m). Starting from Passo Falzarego or Rifugio Bai de Dones, the trail climbs steadily through meadows and rocky paths to the Cinque Torri, a natural fortress of limestone pinnacles.
From here, the route continues upward toward Rifugio Nuvolau, one of the oldest huts in the Dolomites, perched on a dramatic summit with 360° views over the Civetta, Marmolada, Tofane, and Pelmo. A short traverse leads to Rifugio Averau and the high plateau below the Averau peak, another superb vantage point over the surrounding massifs.
The descent loops back via scenic ridges and mountain huts, completing a varied and rewarding day that blends dramatic geology, history, and some of the finest viewpoints in the Dolomites.
After several days of hiking through the Dolomite’s wild landscapes, today is a chance to slow down, explore the village at your own pace, or take a day trip to one of the country’s other stunning destinations.
There are hundreds more hikes you can go for alone if you still have the energy or maybe you would like to experience a bit of culture in Verona or Venice. We have lots of ideas for you if you need some inspiration.

This demanding loop explores the wild northern flanks of the Pale di San Martino, linking the alpine meadows of Val Venegia with the high pass of Mulaz and the dramatic Val di Focobon. Starting from Paneveggio or Passo Rolle, the trail climbs gently through larch and spruce forest into the idyllic Val Venegia, where grassy pastures are backed by the vertical towers of the Pale.
From Rifugio Venegiota the path steepens, winding over scree and rocky slopes toward Passo Mulaz (2,619 m). Here the scenery shifts to a stark high-alpine world, with the jagged summits of Cimon della Pala and the Pale plateau dominating the horizon. The descent into Val di Focobon is steep and rugged, surrounded by sheer limestone walls and deep gullies carved by snowmelt streams.
The loop closes by traversing back into Val Venegia, where wide pastures and mountain huts offer a gentler finish after the rugged high ground. Remote, varied, and spectacular, this is one of the great full-day hikes of the Dolomites.

This scenic circuit links the wide alpine pastures of Mondeval with the shimmering waters of Lago Federa, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Dolomites. Starting from Passo Giau, the trail crosses rolling meadows beneath the jagged spires of the Croda da Lago group, with marmots often spotted among the rocks.
The route climbs gently to the Mondeval plateau, where Mesolithic archaeological remains were discovered in a shepherd’s shelter, before contouring across high pastures with sweeping views over Pelmo, Civetta, and the Tofane. A descent through larch woods leads to Lago Federa, perfectly framed by the soaring cliffs of Becco di Mezzodì reflected in its waters.
From the lake, the return ascends gradually back toward Passo Giau, closing a varied and atmospheric loop that blends history, alpine scenery, and one of the Dolomites’ most iconic lakes.
