The hike to the Blue Eye, one of Albania’s most famous natural wonders, follows quiet paths through forest and farmland to reach the crystal-clear spring at Syri i Kaltër. Starting near the village of Muzinë, the trail winds along tracks lined with olive groves and wildflowers, with views across the Drinos valley and surrounding hills.
As the path approaches the Blue Eye, the landscape becomes greener and cooler, with streams feeding lush vegetation. The spring itself is unforgettable: a pool of impossibly clear turquoise water bubbling up from an underground cave, surrounded by shaded trees and wooden platforms.
After time to rest and enjoy the setting, the return follows the same route back, making this a rewarding half-day outing that combines rural scenery with one of Albania’s most iconic sights.

This lesser-known but equally breathtaking trail climbs to Peja Pass, a high mountain pass offering jaw-dropping views over the Theth Valley and the rugged peaks beyond. The route passes through scenic alpine meadows, occasional shepherd huts, and rocky switchbacks leading to the pass. From the top, the dramatic cliffs and sharp ridgelines make for an unforgettable sight. Less crowded than Valbona Pass, this hike provides a true sense of remoteness and wilderness.

One of the most iconic hikes in Albania, this trail climbs through lush forests, rocky switchbacks, and high alpine meadows, leading to the breathtaking Valbona Pass. From the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Accursed Mountains stretching into both Albania and Montenegro. The descent into Valbona Valley offers stunning glacial landscapes, making this trek one of the most scenic in the country. It’s a challenging yet rewarding adventure, with mountain huts along the way for breaks and refreshments.
After several days of hiking through Albania’s wild landscapes, today is a chance to slow down, explore Theth at your own pace, or take a day trip to one of the country’s other stunning destinations.
Another great option is the short trip to Lake Shkodër, the largest lake in the Balkans, a breathtaking destination that blends untouched nature, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage. Straddling the border between Albania and Montenegro, the lake is a haven for birdwatchers, kayakers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat. The Albanian side, near the city of Shkodër, offers stunning views, charming lakeside villages, and opportunities to explore hidden islands, ancient monasteries, and traditional fishing communities. A boat trip on the lake reveals its serene waters, lush wetlands, and an abundance of bird species, including the rare Dalmatian pelican.

A rewarding summit hike that offers sweeping views over both Albania and Montenegro, this trail begins with a steady ascent through dense forests and flower-filled meadows. As the elevation increases, the path becomes rockier, eventually leading to the sharp ridgeline of Maja e Rosit. This is a great choice for experienced hikers looking for a high-altitude challenge near Theth.

An easy but spectacular trail, this route takes hikers to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Albania. The 25-meter-high Grunas Waterfall plunges into a rocky basin, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Continuing further, the Grunas Canyon provides an even more dramatic landscape, with narrow rock walls carved by the Shala River over centuries. This short hike is perfect for those looking to experience Theth’s natural beauty without a strenuous climb.
