Your adventure begins as you arrive in Greece, where transport will be arranged to collect you from Thessaloniki Airport. It’s well connected to Europe, making your journey smooth and hassle-free. We will start our journey to the mountains in the late afternoon. If you arrive earlier you can store your luggage in the city centre and use the time to explore Thessaloniki.
To make the most of your trip, we recommend arriving in the morning or afternoon, giving you time to settle in and it’s a great opportunity to meet your fellow adventurers. If you’re arriving a day early, we can suggest excellent accommodation options to ensure a relaxed start to your journey.
For the duration of the trip, you’ll be based in Litochoro, right at the heart of Mount Olympus National Park. This means you won’t have to carry all your belongings from place to place, and after each day of hiking, you’ll return to the comfort of a warm shower and a cosy bed. Get ready for an unforgettable week exploring one of Europe’s most spectacular mountain landscapes.

The hike to Skolio (2,911 m), the second-highest peak of Mount Olympus, is one of the most rewarding day hikes in the national park. Starting from Prionia or from the Spilios Agapitos refuge, the trail climbs steadily through dense forest before breaking into the open alpine slopes that define the upper reaches of Greece’s most legendary mountain. Unlike the knife-edge ridge to Mytikas, Skolio offers a more accessible summit while still delivering breathtaking panoramas across the Olympus massif. From the top, you stand face-to-face with the dramatic cliffs of Mytikas and Stefani, known as the “Throne of Zeus,” while below stretch endless ridges, deep gorges, and the blue shimmer of the Aegean Sea in the distance. The sense of mythology is palpable here, as if you’ve stepped into the realm of the gods themselves. Challenging but not overly technical, the Skolio hike is the perfect choice for strong hikers seeking a full mountain experience with a little less exposure than the very highest peak.

The Enipeas Gorge is one of the most beautiful and accessible hikes in Mount Olympus National Park, offering a journey through lush forest, dramatic cliffs, and crystal-clear streams that feel worlds away from the rocky alpine summits above. Starting from Prionia at 1,100 meters, the trail descends gradually along the Enipeas River, following a well-marked path that winds past wooden bridges, hidden chapels, and waterfalls tumbling into turquoise pools. The gorge is rich with plant life, from dense firs and pines to wild herbs and flowers, and the sound of running water is a constant companion. The highlight for many is the chance to pause at one of the natural pools for a refreshing dip, especially in summer when the cool mountain water is irresistible. Eventually, the trail emerges near Litochoro, making it a point-to-point hike that can be done in either direction, though starting from Prionia makes the walk a mostly gentle descent. With its mix of mythology, scenery, and accessibility, the Enipeas Gorge hike is a perfect way to experience the softer, greener side of Olympus and a fine complement to the high mountain climbs.

The Meteora hike is unlike any other in Greece, combining natural wonder with centuries of history and spirituality. Trails wind through a surreal landscape of towering sandstone pillars, where monasteries perch impossibly on the cliff tops, blending with the rock as if grown from it. Starting from the town of Kastraki or Kalambaka, the paths ascend gradually through forest and stone steps, leading to viewpoints that reveal sweeping panoramas of the valley and the unique rock formations that make Meteora a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, hikers can visit several of the active monasteries, where ancient frescoes, chapels, and peaceful courtyards offer a glimpse into the lives of the monks who built these retreats high above the world. The walk itself is moderate, with steady climbs and plenty of places to rest, but the experience is far greater than the physical challenge — it is a journey through both nature and culture. By the time you return to the base of the rocks, the sense of awe lingers, as Meteora is one of those rare places where human devotion and the majesty of the landscape meet in perfect harmony.
After several days of hiking through Greecs’s wild landscapes, today is a chance to slow down, explore Litochoro at your own pace, or take a day trip to one of the country’s other stunning destinations.
The town itself is charming, with cobbled streets, traditional tavernas, and shady squares where you can relax over coffee or a plate of meze. If you’d like to rest your legs, head down to the coast just a short drive away, where long stretches of sandy beach and the clear waters of the Aegean make for a refreshing contrast to the mountains. Popular spots like Plaka and Leptokarya offer both lively beach cafés and quieter corners where you can simply swim and sunbathe with Olympus towering behind you. For something more cultural, you could visit the ancient site of Dion, once a sacred city dedicated to Zeus, or explore the nearby monasteries tucked into the foothills. Whether you choose history, seaside relaxation, or a gentle wander around Litochoro itself, the area makes it easy to balance mountain adventure with rest and discovery.

A day hike on Mount Olympus gives you a real taste of Greece’s highest mountain without needing ropes, scrambling, or overnight stays. The most popular starting point is Prionia at 1,100 m, where the trail climbs steadily through shady forest, crossing streams and switchbacks until it reaches the Spilios Agapitos refuge at 2,100 m. From here, you can continue upward onto the alpine slopes, where the trees fall away and the full drama of the Olympus massif comes into view. Many hikers aim for Skolio (2,911 m), the second-highest peak, which can be reached on a long but non-technical day hike. The path climbs gradually over rocky terrain, rewarding your effort with jaw-dropping views across to Mytikas and Stefani, the famous “Throne of Zeus,” while the Aegean Sea glitters far below. For those wanting a slightly shorter day, turning back at the refuge or hiking partway onto the alpine ridges still provides spectacular scenery and a true sense of Olympus’ scale. It’s a demanding day out, but entirely achievable for strong hikers, and it offers the magic of standing among the peaks that were once believed to be the realm of the gods.

The hike from Prionia (1,100 m) to the Spilios Agapitos Hut (2,100 m) is the most popular and accessible way to step into the high world of Mount Olympus. Beginning at the end of the paved road, the trail climbs immediately into dense forest of beech, fir, and pine, following a well-marked path that switchbacks steadily uphill. Along the way, you cross wooden bridges, hear the sound of rushing streams, and catch glimpses of the steep ridges above. Despite the steady ascent, the shaded forest and frequent resting spots make the hike manageable for most fit walkers. Emerging at the stone-built Spilios Agapitos refuge, perched on a natural balcony at 2,100 meters, you’re rewarded with sweeping views back down the valley and across to the Aegean Sea on clear days. For many, this is a perfect turnaround point for a rewarding day hike, while for others it is the ideal base to continue on to the higher peaks of Olympus the following morning. With its mix of natural beauty, good facilities, and mythic atmosphere, the hike to Agapitos Hut is the classic introduction to Greece’s most legendary mountain.
