The trail to Cala Goloritzé is one of Sardinia’s most iconic hikes, leading you through the wild landscapes of the Supramonte to a jewel of the Mediterranean coast. Starting from the Golgo plateau near Baunei, the path winds steadily downhill through juniper and holm oak, opening onto sweeping views of limestone cliffs and the deep blue sea below. After about an hour and a half of hiking, you reach Cala Goloritzé, a small protected cove famous for its white pebbly beach, turquoise waters, and the towering Aguglia rock spire that rises 148 meters straight from the shore. Because of its protected status, motorboats cannot dock here, making the beach accessible only by foot or kayak — and preserving its serene, untouched beauty. The return climb is steep but rewarding, and the memory of this hike often lingers as one of the highlights of Sardinia.

Often called the “Grand Canyon of Europe,” Gorropu Canyon (Su Gorropu) is one of the deepest gorges on the continent, with vertical limestone walls rising up to 500 meters. The hike offers a full immersion into Sardinia’s wild Supramonte landscape, combining sweeping mountain views with the awe of descending into this dramatic chasm.
The most common route starts from the Passo di Genna Silana (1,010 m). From the trailhead, the path leads steadily downhill through aromatic Mediterranean scrub and oak woodland. Along the way, you’ll catch panoramic glimpses of the Flumineddu valley before the descent steepens, guiding you toward the canyon floor. After about two hours, you reach the riverbed at the entrance to Gorropu, where massive boulders and narrow corridors signal the start of a different world.
Inside the gorge, the light dims, and the limestone walls seem to close in above you. In some stretches, the canyon narrows to just a few meters wide, amplifying the echo of your footsteps. The terrain here becomes more rugged, with boulder-hopping and some scrambling required to venture deeper. At its heart, Gorropu feels almost primeval, a place shaped by water and time, where silence is broken only by the wind and the occasional call of a raven overhead.

This stretch of the Selvaggio Blu lets you experience the wild spirit of Sardinia’s most famous trek without technical climbing or ropework. The route links two of the Gulf of Orosei’s most stunning beaches — Cala Sisine and Cala Luna — through a varied trail of limestone cliffs, shaded holm oak woods, and panoramic terraces above the turquoise sea.
Starting at Cala Sisine, the path rises gradually through rocky gullies and Mediterranean scrub, rewarding you with sweeping views of the coastline. As you progress north, the landscape alternates between hidden karst valleys and open ledges overlooking the water, always with the jagged cliffs of the Supramonte towering above. The hike is demanding but not technical, involving only some steep ascents and descents on loose rock.
After about 5–6 hours, the trail descends to Cala Luna, a crescent of golden sand backed by caves and vertical cliffs. It’s one of Sardinia’s most iconic beaches — a perfect reward for the effort. From here, hikers can return on foot, arrange a boat transfer back to Cala Gonone, or simply linger to swim and rest under the natural arches of the shoreline.
This section captures the essence of Selvaggio Blu — wild, remote, and breathtaking — but is suitable for confident hikers who prefer to avoid ropes and exposed scrambling.
On your free day in Sardinia between hikes, you could stay by the coast in Cala Gonone and take a leisurely boat trip along the Gulf of Orosei, gliding past sheer limestone cliffs and stopping at coves such as Cala Luna or Cala Mariolu where you can swim in clear turquoise water and explore sea caves that feel hidden from the world. After returning to shore, the afternoon is well spent in the nearby town of Dorgali where artisan workshops showcase traditional ceramics, leatherwork and delicate filigree jewelry, and small wineries invite you to taste the region’s celebrated Cannonau wines. As evening settles in, you can linger over a shepherd’s feast in a rustic agriturismo, savoring roasted suckling pig, fresh cheeses and crisp pane carasau, while the setting sun casts golden light over the Supramonte hills. It is a day of rest and immersion that blends the island’s natural beauty with its culture and flavors, leaving you restored for the next trek.

The hike to Monte Tiscali is one of Sardinia’s most fascinating journeys, blending rugged landscapes with echoes of the island’s ancient past. The trail begins in the Lanaittu Valley near Dorgali and climbs steadily through oak woods, juniper, and rocky limestone slopes, with wide views over the Supramonte mountains unfolding as you ascend.
At the summit, you step into a hidden doline — a collapsed karst crater — where the remains of a Nuragic village lie tucked among trees and stone. Circular foundations of huts, shaded by holm oaks, suggest a community that used this natural refuge as both a settlement and a place of protection. The enclosed atmosphere feels secluded and timeless, in stark contrast to the open vistas of the approach.
The return follows the same path back down, making for a moderately demanding but non-technical hike that takes around half a day, including time to wander among the ruins and enjoy the stillness of this unique site.

Offering the best views of Punta La Marmora, the highest peak in Sardinia, and panoramic views that stretch across the island, from the rugged Supramonte to the shimmering Mediterranean on clear days. The hike begins in the Gennargentu National Park, usually from the Bruncu Spina area, where open ridgelines and alpine-like meadows dominate the landscape.
The trail ascends gradually, weaving through rocky slopes dotted with low shrubs, wildflowers, and the occasional grazing mouflon. Unlike the dramatic cliffs of the east coast, the terrain here feels wide and open, with an almost highland character. As you approach the summit ridge, the path narrows, and the horizon expands in every direction, giving a sense of standing on the very roof of Sardinia.
Reaching the summit is a rewarding moment, marked by vast silence and sweeping vistas that reveal the island’s varied geography. The descent retraces the ascent, making for a moderately demanding but non-technical day hike that captures Sardinia’s wilder, more mountainous side.
After an incredible week exploring the wild beauty of Sardinia, it’s time to pack your bags and begin your journey onwards. Transport will be arranged to take you back to Olbia. It’s recommended not to book a flight too early on the final day to give yourself time to get back to the airport.
