Your Adventure, Day by Day

Your Interlaken
Hiking Itinerary

interlaken

Your adventure begins as you arrive in Switzerland, where transport will be arranged to collect you from Interlaken Train Station. It’s very well connected to nearby airports such as Zurich, Geneva and Berne by train, making your journey smooth and hassle-free.

To make the most of your trip, we recommend arriving in the morning or afternoon, giving you time to settle in and also a great opportunity to meet your fellow adventurers. If you’re arriving a day early, we can suggest excellent accommodation options to ensure a relaxed start to your journey.

For the duration of the trip, you’ll be based in Interlaken, nestled between lakes and mountains. This means you won’t have to carry all your belongings from place to place, and after each day of hiking, you’ll return to the comfort of a warm shower and a cosy bed. Get ready for an unforgettable week exploring one of Europe’s most spectacular mountain landscapes.

Schynige Platte2

Distance – 16km, Elevation – 900m, Time – 6,5 Hours

This stunning ridge hike is one of the crown jewels of the Bernese Oberland. Starting from the nostalgic cogwheel train up to Schynige Platte, the trail follows a dramatic ridgeline offering continuous panoramic views of Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, and the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Along the way, you’ll pass alpine huts, wildflower meadows, and postcard-perfect viewpoints. The hike finishes at First, above Grindelwald, where a cable car takes you down into the valley. It’s a challenging but utterly rewarding full-day adventure — ideal for fit hikers who want to be immersed in the Dolomite-like drama of Switzerland.

Faulhorn Summit

Distance – 12.9km, Elevation – 665m, Time – 5,5 Hours

One of the most photogenic hikes in the region, this route starts from First (Grindelwald) after a scenic cable car ride. You’ll pass the mirror-like Bachalpsee, surrounded by wildflowers and alpine views, before ascending to the historic Faulhorn hut, perched on a summit with sweeping 360° views. It’s a perfect mix of effort and reward, with varied terrain and the chance to enjoy lunch with a view at one of the highest mountain hotels in Europe.

Lauterbrunnen to Murren

Distance – 13.8km, Elevation – 850m, Time – 6,5 Hours

This hike captures the essence of Swiss alpine charm, beginning in the fairy-tale valley of Lauterbrunnen, surrounded by 72 waterfalls. From there, you hike up through Gimmelwald, a timeless mountain hamlet, and finish in the car-free village of Mürren, with views over the massive walls of the Bernese Alps. The trail blends pastoral beauty, traditional wooden houses, and thundering waterfalls, making it a scenic and culturally rich journey.

bern

After several days of hiking through Switzerland’s wild landscapes, today is a chance to slow down, explore the village at your own pace, go for a swim in the lake, or take a day trip to one of the country’s other stunning destinations.

There are hundreds more hikes you can go for alone if you still have the energy or maybe you would like to visit Geneva or the cultural capital of Bern. We have lots of ideas for you if you need some inspiration.

Oeschinensee

Distance – 11.9km, Elevation – 517m, Time – 5 Hours

Just over an hour from Interlaken in Kandersteg, this hike starts with a cable car and leads you to the breathtaking Lake Oeschinen, famed for its turquoise waters and surrounding cliffs. From there, the trail climbs gently above the lake for expansive views and descends through forests and open alpine pastures. It’s ideal for a slightly easier day that doesn’t compromise on wow-factor — great for a mid-trip breather or a family-friendly option.

Eiger Trail

Distance – 6.4km, Elevation – 816m, Time – 4 Hours

Shorter in distance but rich in drama, the Eiger Trail hugs the base of the legendary Eiger North Face, giving you a front-row view of one of the Alps’ most iconic climbing walls. Starting from Eigergletscher station, the trail winds down through alpine terrain to Alpiglen, offering endless views of the valley below. You can extend this hike by connecting to Grindelwald or nearby routes, but even on its own, it packs a thrilling punch in just a few hours.

After an incredible week exploring the wild beauty of Switzerland, it’s time to pack your bags and begin your journey onwards. Transport will be arranged to take you back to the train station. It’s recommended not to book a flight too early on the final day to give yourself time to get  back to the airport.

If you’re extending your stay, there are plenty of incredible places to explore beyond the mountains. We’d be happy to share recommendations to help you make the most of your time.

As you leave Interlaken behind, you’ll take with you memories of dramatic peaks, glacial lakes, and unforgettable adventures in one of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes. Until next time!

YOUR ACCOMMOdATION

You’ll be staying at Townhouse II in the heart of the lively town of Interlaken. It’s a family run guesthouse, nestled between mountains and lakes. Sometimes a different guesthouse of similar quality will be used but we will always let you know 6 weeks prior to arrival.

Switzerland absolutely blew me away. I knew it would be beautiful, but nothing prepared me for the scale of the mountains, the colour of the lakes, or how peaceful it all felt once you got out on the trails. Every day was something different — we’d climb up to sweeping ridgelines one day, then find ourselves beside a glacier-fed lake or walking through tiny alpine villages the next. The whole experience felt seamless, thanks to how well everything was organised by Trailmates — no stress, just pure adventure. The group was amazing too; total strangers at first, but we quickly bonded over shared steps and shared meals in cosy mountain huts. The hikes pushed me in all the best ways, and the views? Just unreal. If you’re looking for big nature, fresh air, and that feeling of being totally present, Switzerland is magic.
