The Eiger Trail is one of the most iconic hikes in the Bernese Oberland, running directly beneath the sheer north face of the Eiger. Starting from Eigergletscher station, the path contours along alpine slopes with dramatic views of glaciers and waterfalls, while the immense wall of the Eiger looms overhead.
The route continues through pastures and high meadows filled with wildflowers in summer, with constant panoramas of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the Wetterhorn, and the Jungfrau. Marmots and ibex are often seen along the quieter stretches.
The descent leads to Grindelwald, completing a longer but still accessible day on one of Switzerland’s most celebrated mountain trails. With its close-up views of the Eiger and sweeping alpine scenery, this hike is a highlight of the Jungfrau region.

The trail climbs gradually with panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, passing mountain farms and grazing pastures along the way.
The approach to Rotstock Hut leads through wilder ground beneath cliffs and ridges, where the scenery feels more remote. The hut provides a welcoming stop for food and rest before continuing the journey.
The descent follows a different path that contours through meadows and woodland, with ever-changing views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. With its comfortable ascent spread over a longer distance, this version makes for a rewarding full-day outing in the Bernese Oberland.

This classic alpine traverse links two of the Bernese Oberland’s best-known viewpoints, following high ridges and meadows above the lakes of Interlaken. Starting from the gondola station at First above Grindelwald, the trail passes the turquoise waters of Bachalpsee before climbing toward the Faulhorn, where the panorama opens across the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
From the summit ridge the path continues along undulating high ground, with sweeping views of Lake Brienz and the jagged peaks of the Bernese Alps. Alpine flowers, grazing cows, and marmots bring colour and life to the meadows along the route.
The descent leads gradually to Schynige Platte, famous for its historic cog railway and alpine garden, completing one of the finest one-day hikes in Switzerland.
After several days of hiking through Switzerland’s wild landscapes, today is a chance to slow down, explore the village at your own pace, go for a swim in the lake, or take a day trip to one of the country’s other stunning destinations.
There are hundreds more hikes you can go for alone if you still have the energy or maybe you would like to visit Geneva or the cultural capital of Bern. We have lots of ideas for you if you need some inspiration.

From Kandersteg the trail climbs through forest and meadows toward Oeschinensee, where turquoise waters are framed by the towering cliffs of the Blüemlisalp. After reaching the lakeshore, the route continues upward on balcony paths to Oberbärgli and Heuberg, high above the lake.
These panoramic viewpoints offer some of the most dramatic vistas in the Bernese Alps, with Oeschinensee far below and the snow-capped summits of Doldenhorn, Fründenhorn, and Blüemlisalp dominating the skyline. The path traverses alpine pastures before descending gradually back toward the lake and into Kandersteg.
This longer loop combines close-up time by the lake with soaring mountain views from above, making it one of the most complete and rewarding day hikes in the region.

From the cable car station at Männlichen the route begins with sweeping views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Instead of heading directly down, the trail follows the high ridge toward Kleine Scheidegg, passing meadows, farmhouses, and grazing cattle with the north face of the Eiger dominating the skyline.
From Kleine Scheidegg the descent to Wengen begins, winding through pastures and forest paths with constant views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The trail passes mountain huts and balconies overlooking waterfalls and cliffs before reaching the village of Wengen, perched on its sunny terrace.
This longer route combines the ridge walk to Kleine Scheidegg with the descent into Wengen, making it a fuller day that balances panoramic ridge scenery with classic valley views.
