The Homhil Plateau is one of the jewels of Socotra, home to rare dragon blood trees, bottle trees, and sweeping coastal views. The hike begins near Homhil village and climbs steadily on a stony path into the highlands, with the Arabian Sea gradually spreading out behind.
As the route ascends, the landscape transforms into groves of dragon blood trees with their umbrella-shaped crowns and desert roses clinging to rocky slopes. The highlight is a natural infinity pool at the plateau’s edge, where clear spring water collects above a vast backdrop of ocean and mountains.
The return follows the same route, with fresh perspectives over the coastline and valleys below. Blending unique flora, striking geology, and the chance to swim in a natural pool, this hike is among the most unforgettable experiences on Socotra.

The extended section explores remote valleys and dramatic limestone outcrops, with constant panoramic views over cliffs and fertile plains below.

Adonah Mountain rises from the Hagghier range in the heart of Socotra, offering one of the island’s most dramatic summit views. The trail begins from the Dixam Plateau and climbs steadily through rocky wadis, where dragon blood trees and frankincense dot the slopes.
The ascent grows steeper as the path winds into rugged highlands of limestone cliffs and sharp ridges. At the summit, the panorama opens across the Hagghier Mountains, with jagged peaks and deep valleys stretching to the Arabian Sea.
The descent follows the same trail back to the plateau, with changing perspectives of the forested wadis and terraced farmland below. With its demanding climb and unforgettable views, Adonah is one of the most rewarding mountain hikes on Socotra.
After several days of exploring Socotra’s wild trails, today is a chance to slow down and enjoy the island at an easier pace. You might spend the morning wandering through local villages, meeting friendly residents, and browsing small markets for handicrafts, incense, and traditional foods. Another great option is a trip to one of Socotra’s pristine beaches, such as Detwah Lagoon near Qalansiyah, where turquoise waters and white sand create one of the most idyllic spots in the Indian Ocean. The lagoon is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, home to rich marine life and migratory birds. Here you can swim, relax, or take a boat ride with local fishermen to nearby hidden coves and deserted islets. With its unique blend of raw beauty, biodiversity, and traditional culture, a rest day on Socotra offers just as much wonder as the hikes themselves.

The trail to Hoq Cave begins near the village of Terbak on Socotra’s northeast coast and climbs steadily on a rocky path above the coastal plain. Along the way, dragon blood trees, frankincense, and desert roses dot the slopes, while views open over the turquoise Arabian Sea.
At the cave entrance, a vast opening reveals a labyrinth of chambers stretching deep into the limestone cliffs. Inside, stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal formations fill the cool darkness, while ancient inscriptions highlight the site’s cultural and historical importance.
The return retraces the same path, with wide ocean views and the striking contrast of arid slopes and green wadis. With its blend of coastal scenery, rare plants, and a spectacular cave system, this hike is one of the most memorable on Socotra.

The trail through Ayhaft Canyon begins at the entrance and follows a freshwater stream into one of the greenest wadis on Socotra. Early on, tamarind, fig, and date palms provide shade while small waterfalls and clear pools invite refreshing pauses.
As the route continues deeper into the gorge, towering cliffs rise higher on both sides and the landscape becomes wilder. The vegetation gives way to dragon blood trees and desert roses clinging to the upper slopes, adding a distinctly Socotri character.
The return follows the same path along the canyon floor, with shifting light on the cliffs and new perspectives of the pools. With its blend of water, greenery, and dramatic rock walls, Ayhaft offers one of the most rewarding full-day walks on the island.
