Your adventure begins as you arrive in Pakistan, where transport will be arranged to collect you from Gilgit Airport. There are several flights a day from the capital, Islamabad, which is well connected to Europe and Asia, making your journey smooth and hassle-free. We will start our journey to the mountains in the early afternoon. If you arrive earlier you can store your luggage in the city centre and use the time to explore the town.
To make the most of your trip, we recommend arriving in the morning or afternoon, giving you time to settle in and it’s a great opportunity to meet your fellow adventurers. If you’re arriving a day early, we can suggest excellent accommodation options to ensure a relaxed start to your journey.
For the duration of the trip, you’ll be based in Karimabad, right in the heart of the mountains. This means you won’t have to carry all your belongings from place to place, and after each day of hiking, you’ll return to the comfort of a warm shower and a cosy bed. Get ready for an unforgettable week exploring one of Asia’s most spectacular mountain landscapes.

This hike near the village of Passu is one of the most photogenic in northern Pakistan, offering a close look at the mighty Passu Glacier and spectacular views of the sharp limestone spires known as the Passu Cones. It’s a perfect full-day outing from Karimabad, combining easy access with unforgettable scenery.
The trail begins near Passu village, about an hour’s drive north of Karimabad on the Karakoram Highway. From the edge of the village, a small path leads through dry, windswept terrain and across glacial moraine, following a series of cairns and shepherd tracks. The ascent is steady, with wide views of the Batura Glacier and the shimmering turquoise Hunza River below.
As you reach the glacier viewpoint, the jagged white ice of the Passu Glacier stretches below you, framed by the towering golden spires of the Passu Cones and the massive Batura Wall in the distance. It’s an incredible spot for photos and a quiet picnic surrounded by raw, wild beauty.
The return follows the same route or a small loop through the nearby Passu suspension bridge for extra adventure before heading back to the village. It’s one of Hunza’s most iconic trails — a perfect mix of desert landscapes, ice, and mountain drama.

The Ultar Meadow hike begins right above Karimabad and leads into one of the most dramatic corners of the Hunza Valley. It’s a steep and rugged trail, but the views of Ultar Sar, Ladyfinger Peak, and the valley below make it one of the most rewarding day hikes in the region.
The path starts near Baltit Fort, winding steeply up through stone terraces, irrigation channels, and small pastures. After an hour or so, you’ll reach a viewpoint overlooking the entire Hunza Valley, with Rakaposhi gleaming on the southern horizon. From here, the trail narrows as it climbs toward Ultar Meadow, a grassy plateau surrounded by towering cliffs and hanging glaciers.
The meadow offers panoramic views of Ultar Sar (7,388 m) and Ladyfinger Peak (6,000 m) rising sharply above, while below, the terraces and rooftops of Karimabad shimmer in the sun. Local shepherds sometimes graze their animals here in summer, adding to the peaceful alpine atmosphere.
The descent follows the same route and takes about two hours. Though short in distance, the hike is demanding due to its gradient and rocky terrain. It’s best started early in the morning for clear skies and cooler temperatures. For strong hikers, this trail delivers a true Hunza adventure right from your doorstep in Karimabad.

The hike to Rakaposhi Base Camp, also known as Tagaphari, is one of the most beautiful day hikes in northern Pakistan. Starting from the village of Minapin, just over an hour’s drive from Karimabad, it offers a mix of traditional life, alpine meadows, and immense glacial scenery beneath the towering 7,788-meter peak of Rakaposhi.
The trail begins by climbing through terraced fields and scattered pine forest above Minapin, with early views of Diran Peak and the Minapin Glacier. After about two to three hours, you reach Hapakun, a small meadow that makes a perfect rest stop. From there, the path steepens, winding up through grassy slopes toward Tagaphari Meadow, perched above the snout of the glacier.
At the top, the reward is spectacular: Rakaposhi’s massive ice wall rises directly above you, filling the sky, while Diran Peak stands across the valley. You can walk out to the glacier’s edge or rest among wildflowers and grazing yaks.
The return follows the same route, descending to Minapin in the afternoon light. While it’s possible as a long day hike, many trekkers stay overnight at Hapakun or Tagaphari for sunrise views that turn Rakaposhi gold and pink. It’s one of the Hunza Valley’s most iconic trails — demanding, but truly unforgettable.

A day off in and around Karimabad is a great chance to slow down and soak up the culture, scenery, and warmth of the Hunza Valley. You could start with a visit to Baltit Fort, an ancient fortress perched above the town with sweeping views of the valley and snow peaks. Nearby, the restored Altit Fort and its surrounding old village offer a beautiful glimpse of traditional Hunza life, with cobbled lanes, wood-carved houses, and friendly locals happy to share stories about their heritage.
Afterward, wander through the apricot orchards and terraced fields, or stop by Café de Hunza or Mountain Cup for coffee and walnut cake with a view of Rakaposhi. If you’re in the mood for something relaxing, drive up to Duikar, known as Eagle’s Nest, for one of the best panoramas in the Karakoram. Watching the sun rise or set over Ultar Sar and Ladyfinger Peak from there is unforgettable.
For a cultural touch, visit a local craft shop or women’s cooperative in Altit or Ganesh village to see traditional weaving and woodwork. You can end the day with dinner on a terrace overlooking the valley, where the air cools and the mountains glow pink at sunset. It’s an easy, unhurried day that shows why Hunza is as much about its people and culture as its mountains.

The Queen Victoria Monument to Hosht Valley hike is one of the most scenic routes above Karimabad, leading from the terraced fields of the village into the high meadows beneath Ultar Peak. It combines history, culture, and striking alpine scenery, offering a complete picture of Hunza’s landscapes in a single climb.
The trail begins in Karimabad, winding through the old lanes below Baltit Fort before ascending steeply toward the Queen Victoria Monument, a small stone structure that overlooks the entire Hunza Valley. From there, the path continues higher into the open slopes above the village, following shepherd trails that pass small stone huts and irrigation channels.
As you enter the Hosht Valley, the terrain opens into grassy pastures surrounded by towering cliffs and hanging glaciers. The air is cool and still, and the peaks of Ultar Sar and Ladyfinger rise directly ahead, their sharp summits gleaming in the sunlight. It’s a quiet place to rest and take in the mountain silence before retracing your steps back down to Karimabad.
With its mix of steep hillside paths, traditional settlements, and wild alpine scenery, this hike captures the essence of Hunza. It’s a demanding but deeply rewarding journey from village terraces to high mountain meadows, one of the best full-day hikes in the valley.

The Hoper Glacier and Bualtar Valley hike offers a perfect mix of dramatic ice landscapes, green meadows, and village life across the river from Hunza. Starting from the village of Hopar, about an hour’s drive from Karimabad, this is one of the most scenic and accessible glacier walks in the region.
The trail begins just above Hopar village, winding through terraced fields and pastures before reaching the edge of the Hoper Glacier, a vast river of ice streaked with rock and debris. From there, a marked route leads safely across the glacier’s edge, revealing incredible views of Spantik (Golden Peak), Diran Peak, and the Miar Glacier.
Beyond the glacier, the path climbs gently into the Bualtar Valley, where alpine meadows open up beneath snow-covered peaks. It’s a peaceful place to rest and enjoy the silence of the mountains, broken only by the sound of meltwater streams.
The return follows the same route, with time to explore Hopar village and chat with locals tending their fields. This hike is a true Hunza classic — moderate in effort, rich in scenery, and full of the quiet beauty that defines northern Pakistan.

After an incredible week exploring the wild beauty of the Hunza Valley, it’s time to pack your bags and begin your journey onwards. Transport will be arranged to take you to Gilgit Airport. It’s best arrange your flight in the afternoon (after 2pm) or evening as we’ll need time to drive from the mountains.
If you’re extending your stay, there are plenty of incredible places to explore beyond the mountains. We’d be happy to share recommendations to help you make the most of your time.
As you leave Karimabad behind, you’ll take with you memories of dramatic peaks, glacial lakes, and unforgettable adventures in one of Asia’s most breathtaking landscapes. Until next time!

EXCELLENT Based on 44 reviews Posted on Maja De BritoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Scotland hiking trip. A top notch, 5-star experience from planning stage to saying goodbye with the group and the guides. Garry was immensly helpful with bits and pieces of information that made organising my traveling to Scotland and arriving to the meeting place a smooth and pleasant experience. Communication throught Whatsapp was effortless and always with a very quick reponse. I felt everything was taken care of, with a ready and helpful response for every inquiry or need. The hikes themselves were wonderful, both guides were very flexible and adapted to our level of fitness, but also our interests. Very grateful that we had the opportunity to see some off the beaten track routes. I have several food intolerances and this was never a limitation on this trip. There were always options, be it through the possibility of preparing my own food as well as having many choices eating out. I've been recommending their hikes to my friends and will definitely join for other destinations.Posted on AlinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had an incredible experience with this hiking tour company in Montenegro, which I found through Instagram. The itinerary was clear and well-planned, with no last-minute changes—everything ran smoothly. Our guide, Vera, was fantastic. She not only supported us throughout the hike but also helped with local touring advice and even assisted in booking activities with local guides. Her knowledge and kindness made a big difference. The tour was conducted in a sustainable and budget-friendly way, without compromising on quality. We also received great tips on local cuisine, places to explore, and shopping. I’m already planning my next hike with them. If you’re a hiking enthusiast looking for a trusted guide, this is the company to go with!Posted on Charlotte RobertsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was honestly fantastic and the little additions like the meal with the driver and the local film at cinema Dede really added to the experience. Plus I was so lucky to have such a great group to share the experience with. I'd definitely look at another tour with Trailmates.Posted on Bty btyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had such a great time in Montenegro. I wanted to review this trip as my first experience of group travelling, it had been an incredible experience from start to finish, it was so well organised at every step with support provided when required. It was so nice to be in a group of like minded people making new connections even sharing accommodation which I was sceptical about in the beginning, but was totally comfortable from the start. Our guide Vera was incredible sharing so much information on the area always with a huge smile and encouragement when needed. As well as going the extra mile to help people organise out other activities outside of hiking such as spa treatments and water activities. The hikes themselves were incredible with stunning diverse scenery. Watching wildlife such as mountain goats was a personal highlight. The hikes were challenging with some small technical sections which made it more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this experience. Thank youPosted on Kylie SyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve recently joined the Durmitor National Park hiking trip in Montenegro. As someone who enjoys exploring nature, but doesn’t know many people who are interested in doing so, I’m glad I found Trailmates Adventures, because I’m not comfortable hiking on my own on challenging routes. What I liked/went well: - I did not have to coordinate airport transfer on my own. I just had to arrive - The accommodation is close to the national park, supermarket, restaurants - Not having to bring my luggage around during the hikes - Option to have a private room for an additional cost. I also liked having a kitchen, especially the fridge, although I understand that it wasn’t initially the plan according to the description on the website - Our guide, Vera is a local and she shared with us some history and background of the places along the way. She also paced the hikes well and supported us on challenging points - Option to go rafting in the Tara River during the break - Meeting inspiring people from different backgrounds - Garry (Trailmates Adventures) is very responsive and helpful in the chats - Amazing views, mountain goats, dogs, swimming in the lake! What I underestimated and might help people who are similar to me: - For context, I mostly do strength training and short bursts of high intensity, and not a lot of endurance activities. My stamina definitely got challenged, but I managed to push myself to the summits in the end. I particularly found it difficult to hike down steeper, exposed declines due to fear and inexperience. I also did not know that there would be some light scrambling involved, but the former was more of the issue for me than the latter. Nevertheless, I was in a supportive and safe environment! - If you find that you’re too tired, you can always bail on going to the summit. I was just too stubborn to do that :D Overall, it was an eye opening experience for me, and I really enjoyed it! I’m looking forward to the next trip!Posted on Katie KissTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Hi Garry, Oh, I can not describe in words what a wonderful week I had in Montenegro! Thank you for the great organisation from the first moment till the last! The group has been so lovely, we had great fun every day, and Vera was truly amazing! She is a gem with her kind nature. She guided us through our highs and lows and assisted with activities for the day off! We all loved her! Our accommodation was great, and the lady communicated well and assisted with fresh towels, etc, whenever we needed. Thanks again for the experience, and I am looking forward to coming for another trip!Posted on HaweaberryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined Trailmates Adventures for their hiking trip to Madeira and had an amazing experience. The hike selection was great, the organization smooth, and everything felt well thought through. What really made it special, though, were the people – such a fun and supportive group that turned the trip into something unforgettable.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
