We will arrange transport to collect you from Marrakesh Airport and take you to the accommodation in Ilmil in the Atlas Mountains, which is about a 1,5 hour drive. We advise to arrive in the morning or afternoon so you have time to settle in to your new home for the week. We can also recommend accommodation for the night before if you plan to arrive earlier. Ilmil will be the base for the whole trip, which is great because you don’t need to carry all your stuff around and after a long day walking you know your warm shower and bed is awaiting you.

From there, the trail gradually ascends towards the holy shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, a pilgrimage site where locals seek blessings. The route follows a gentle mountain path alongside a flowing stream, passing mule caravans and small tea houses. The shrine itself, marked by a large white-painted rock, sits at the base of a waterfall, creating a serene atmosphere. This hike leads to one of the most impressive viewpoints in the Atlas Mountains—the Tizi Mzik pass (2,489m). Starting from Imlil, the trail switchbacks up the mountainside, passing through walnut orchards and terraced fields before reaching the pass. From here, you’ll be rewarded with awe-inspiring views over the Azzaden Valley, with its deep red cliffs, lush riverbanks, and distant Berber villages. The return journey follows a different route, descending through alpine meadows where you might spot shepherds tending their flocks. This hike is perfect for those seeking a mix of challenge and rewarding scenery.
Nestled in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, Imlil is the perfect retreat for those looking to take a break from hiking while still immersing themselves in the beauty of Morocco’s mountain culture. Wander through the charming village, where the scent of fresh mint tea drifts through the air and local Berbers welcome visitors with warm hospitality. Visit the Kasbah du Toubkal, a beautifully restored fortress offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and a glimpse into Berber traditions.
For a more relaxed experience, take a short drive to Asni, a traditional market town where locals gather every Saturday to trade fresh produce, handcrafted rugs, and pottery. Alternatively, explore the hidden valley of Azzaden, a peaceful haven dotted with walnut groves and traditional stone villages. If you’d rather unwind, enjoy a slow afternoon at a guesthouse terrace, sipping mint tea and watching the sun cast golden hues over the rugged landscape of the Atlas Mountains.

For a change of scenery, this hike takes you to the lower-altitude landscapes of Ouirgane National Park, just a short drive from Imlil. The trail is gentler and more open, winding through ancient olive groves, red-earth hills, and traditional Berber villages. Unlike the higher-altitude hikes, this one provides a glimpse into local rural life, where villagers tend to their fields and shepherds guide their flocks through the valley. The hike passes alongside Lake Ouirgane, a peaceful spot surrounded by rolling hills. This is the perfect mid-week hike to experience a different side of the Atlas Mountains while giving your legs a slight break from the steeper climbs.
