Your adventure begins as you arrive in Argentina, where transport will be arranged to collect you from El Calafate Airport. It’s well connected to Aregntina and Chile, making your journey smooth and hassle-free. We will start our journey to the accommodation in the late afternoon. If you arrive earlier you can store your luggage in the city centre and use the time to explore El Calafate.
To make the most of your trip, we recommend arriving in the morning or afternoon, giving you time to settle in and it’s a great opportunity to meet your fellow adventurers. If you’re arriving a day early, we can suggest excellent accommodation options to ensure a relaxed start to your journey.
For the duration of the trip, you’ll be based in El Chalten, right in the heart of lakes and mountains. This means you won’t have to carry all your belongings from place to place, and after each day of hiking, you’ll return to the comfort of a warm shower and a cosy bed. Get ready for an unforgettable week exploring one of the most spectacular mountain landscapes.

Pliegue Tumbado is one of the most panoramic viewpoints near El Chaltén, offering wide-open vistas across the Patagonian steppe, Mount Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, and the Southern Patagonian Icefield. The trail begins from the ranger station at El Chaltén and climbs gradually through lenga forest filled with birdsong and occasional woodpeckers.
Above the treeline, the path opens onto alpine meadows and rocky slopes, with ever-expanding views over the valleys below. The final approach to the ridge is steeper and often windy, but the reward is a sweeping panorama that takes in glaciers, jagged peaks, and turquoise lakes scattered across the landscape.
The return follows the same trail back to El Chaltén, with fresh perspectives of the steppe and surrounding mountains. With its quieter trails and unmatched 360-degree views, Pliegue Tumbado is one of the most rewarding day hikes in Patagonia.

The trail to Laguna Torre begins right from El Chaltén and follows the valley of the Fitz Roy River toward the base of Cerro Torre, one of Patagonia’s most iconic peaks. The path climbs gently through lenga forest and open slopes, with early viewpoints offering glimpses of Cerro Torre and the surrounding glaciers.
The route continues along the valley floor, crossing streams and meadows where condors often soar overhead. After several hours, the trail arrives at the shore of Laguna Torre, a glacial lake dotted with floating icebergs and framed by the jagged spire of Cerro Torre rising dramatically behind.
The return follows the same trail back to El Chaltén, with changing light on the peaks and valleys. With its mix of gentle terrain and a world-class mountain backdrop, Laguna Torre is one of the most celebrated hikes in Patagonia.

Laguna de los Tres is the classic hike of El Chaltén, leading to the base of Mount Fitz Roy and one of Patagonia’s most iconic views. The trail begins in the village and follows the Río de las Vueltas valley through lenga forest and open ridges, with early lookouts toward Mount Fitz Roy and the glacial lakes below.
The path passes through the valley of the Río Blanco, where a campsite lies nestled among the trees, before the steep final climb begins. This last section ascends sharply over rocky slopes to the turquoise waters of Laguna de los Tres, set directly beneath the towering spires of Fitz Roy.
From the lake, side trails lead to viewpoints over Laguna Sucia and the surrounding glaciers, adding even more dramatic perspectives. The return retraces the same route to El Chaltén, completing one of the most unforgettable day hikes in the Andes.

A chance to explore the town, rest your legs, or set out on another adventure. El Chaltén, nestled in the heart of Los Glaciares National Park, is a lively little village surrounded by some of Patagonia’s most dramatic peaks. Between hikes, you can wander its laid-back streets, stopping at bakeries, cafés, and craft beer bars where trekkers gather to share stories while Fitz Roy glows in the distance at sunset. The town also makes a perfect base for small discoveries on your rest days, with short trails leading straight from the streets to waterfalls and viewpoints without the need for a full expedition. For those wanting to experience more of the region, a day trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier is unforgettable. Watching massive chunks of ice calve into the turquoise waters of Lago Argentino is one of Patagonia’s most awe-inspiring sights, and it adds another dimension to a trip already full of adventure. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or one more taste of the wild, El Chaltén offers the right mix of comfort, character, and access to nature.

Laguna Diablo is a quieter alternative to the famous Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre hikes, leading into a wild valley framed by rugged peaks. The trail begins near Lago del Desierto, north of El Chaltén, and follows the Diablo River upstream through dense lenga forest.
The path crosses streams and climbs steadily, with glimpses of glaciers and jagged ridges appearing through the trees. As the forest thins, the route opens onto alpine meadows before reaching Laguna Diablo, a glacial lake set beneath steep rock walls and hanging ice.
The return follows the same trail, with views back toward Lago del Desierto and the surrounding valleys. With fewer crowds, lush forest, and a dramatic mountain setting, this hike offers a more remote Patagonian experience.

This hike begins at Lago del Desierto, north of El Chaltén, and follows the Río Eléctrico valley into one of the most remote corners of Los Glaciares National Park. The trail runs along the river through lush lenga forest and glacial moraine, with views opening toward hanging glaciers and sharp granite peaks.
The first highlight is Lago Eléctrico, a striking glacial lake with floating ice and sheer cliffs rising above. From here, the route continues further into the valley to reach Laguna Pollone, a quieter alpine lake nestled beneath the icefalls of the Marconi Glacier.
The return follows the same trail back toward Lago del Desierto, with fresh views over the valley and surrounding ridges. Combining pristine forest, wild glacial lakes, and the feeling of true wilderness, this hike offers a different, more solitary side of Patagonia.

It’s time to pack your bags and move onwards. We arrange transport back to the airport so you can catch your flight home or continue to explore this wonderful country. We have lots of recommendations if you’re going to spend more time in Argentina.

The program was well structured, with an amazing international group with a good age mix. The accommodation felt very authentic and each day offered different landscapes and nature, so every hike felt unique. It was my first trip with Trailmates and I can highly recommend!Posted on R. I was looking for a mix of genuine adventure and a great community, and Trailmates delivered on both. The group was incredibly welcoming. It felt less like a formal tour and more like a trip with a group of friends. We didn't just see the mountains, we experienced Omani hospitality and authentic local food. Everything was well-organized. It was an adventure with an amazing group of people!Posted on Ruben VlekTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just returned from a great week in Oman! It was one of the few really authentic trips which I made, and the first with Trailmatesadventures. I liked the mixed group (32-62 yrs) of inspiring people. The whole trip was well organized, but with enough room for flexibility (e.g. alternative hikes, activities). I’ve never joined any group trips before, but this was very relaxed just having to book the trip and flight (and seeing various highlights without having to do the research).Posted on Oksana BolkinaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really enjoyable trip to Madeira, despite the unusual weather and unexpected flight cancellations. The hikes were great (our guide Paulo just amazing), and the orga on the island was very good. I didn’t have to worry about anything, which is exactly what I wanted for this trip.Posted on Peder OlesenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I very much enjoyed the hikes in beautiful Madeira. The company was excellent, and our guide André was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the week. If I had to point to anything that could be improved it'd be at the arrival at the apartments; it wasn't clear where luggage could be safely stored until check-in, so we needed to improvise a bit at that point. Also, the lock in the apartment door wasn't in the best condition. However, these very minor issues don't really subtract from what was overall a superb experience!Posted on samantha lambertTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My trip to Madeira was absolutely fantastic. I felt very safe with Andre as our guide, he was attentive and thoughtful, even adjusting some of the hikes to accommodate the group when the steep downhill sections proved challenging. The accommodation was great, especially the location, which was perfect for afternoon swims in the sea and easy access to restaurants in the evenings. I’d definitely consider booking again for a future adventure.Posted on Gillian OTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Did the Moffat, Scotland trip lead by Gary and Tom. Had such a good time, gorgeous views and we got crazy lucky with the weather in September. The duo were super receptive and flexible to the group’s ability and morale, and were quick to think on their feet to adjust the itinerary to work better for us all. A lovely group of female hikers too. Would definitely book in again with them ❤️Posted on Maja De BritoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Scotland hiking trip. A top notch, 5-star experience from planning stage to saying goodbye with the group and the guides. Garry was immensly helpful with bits and pieces of information that made organising my traveling to Scotland and arriving to the meeting place a smooth and pleasant experience. Communication throught Whatsapp was effortless and always with a very quick reponse. I felt everything was taken care of, with a ready and helpful response for every inquiry or need. The hikes themselves were wonderful, both guides were very flexible and adapted to our level of fitness, but also our interests. Very grateful that we had the opportunity to see some off the beaten track routes. I have several food intolerances and this was never a limitation on this trip. There were always options, be it through the possibility of preparing my own food as well as having many choices eating out. I've been recommending their hikes to my friends and will definitely join for other destinations.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
