This classic Rocky Mountain National Park hike links two of the park’s most beautiful alpine lakes, offering a perfect balance of forest, waterfalls, and high-mountain views.
Starting at the Bear Lake trailhead, the path climbs gradually past Nymph and Dream Lakes, each framed by pine forest and reflections of Hallett Peak. From Dream Lake, the trail continues higher to Emerald Lake, a turquoise pool nestled beneath sheer cliffs and snowfields. The scenery here is spectacular year-round, with wildflowers in summer and ice patterns forming on the lake in winter.
From Emerald, it’s a short, rockier trail to Lake Haiyaha, a striking jade-green lake surrounded by massive boulders and towering peaks. The return follows the same route, with changing light giving the lakes new color and texture at every turn. It’s an accessible yet unforgettable hike that captures the very best of Colorado’s alpine landscape.

This demanding but rewarding loop combines two of Boulder’s most iconic summits, offering sweeping views of the plains, the Continental Divide, and the rolling foothills that define Colorado’s Front Range.
Starting from the South Mesa trailhead, the route climbs steadily through open meadows before entering pine forest and rocky terrain. The first major ascent leads to Bear Peak, where a short scramble brings you to a rocky summit with panoramic views over Boulder and the Indian Peaks. From there, a rugged ridge trail connects to South Boulder Peak, the area’s highest summit, where the quieter atmosphere and dramatic western vistas make it a perfect lunch spot.
The descent winds back through forested switchbacks and sunny clearings, often filled with wildflowers and the scent of sage. It’s a full, rewarding day on the trail that captures the best of Boulder’s mountain scenery — steep climbs, big views, and that unmistakable Colorado sunshine.

A classic summit in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, the South Arapaho Peak hike offers a full alpine adventure with glaciers, ridgelines, and sweeping views across the Continental Divide.
The trail begins at the Fourth of July trailhead near Nederland, climbing gradually through forest before opening into alpine meadows filled with wildflowers in summer. As you gain elevation, the views expand toward Arapaho Glacier and the jagged summits of the Front Range. Beyond the old mine ruins, the route steepens, eventually reaching a rocky ridge that leads to the summit at over 4,000 meters.
From the top, the panorama is extraordinary — Lake Dorothy below, the glacier shimmering in the sun, and an unbroken sweep of peaks stretching from Longs Peak to the Gore Range. Most hikers return the same way, though strong climbers can continue along the exposed ridge toward North Arapaho Peak. It’s a demanding but deeply rewarding day that captures the wild, high-altitude beauty of Colorado’s alpine country.

A free day in Boulder and Denver offers plenty of ways to relax, explore, and enjoy Colorado’s mountain culture without hitting the trails. In Boulder, you can wander the Pearl Street Mall for local shops, cafés, and street performers, or visit the Boulder Farmers Market if it’s open. The Chautauqua Park area is great for an easy stroll and mountain views, while the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse offers a peaceful spot to unwind.
If you head into Denver, there’s just as much to do. The city’s art scene thrives at the Denver Art Museum and the RiNo district’s colorful murals, while history lovers can explore Union Station or the Colorado State Capitol. Craft beer fans have endless options — Denver is famous for its breweries — and the city’s food scene ranges from lively markets to upscale dining. Whether you spend the day browsing galleries, relaxing by Boulder Creek, or enjoying a meal downtown, both cities capture the best of Colorado’s creative and easygoing spirit.

One of the most spectacular hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park, the Chasm Lake Trail offers dramatic alpine scenery and a close-up view of the sheer east face of Longs Peak.
The trail begins at the Longs Peak Ranger Station and climbs steadily through spruce and fir forest before breaking into open tundra with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. Along the way, you’ll pass timberline falls and small alpine streams before the final steep section leads to Chasm Lake, set in a cirque directly beneath the towering Diamond of Longs Peak.
The setting is breathtaking — sheer cliffs rising from turquoise water, wildflowers scattered across rocky slopes, and marmots sunning themselves on the boulders. After taking in the view, return along the same route, with wide vistas of the Front Range unfolding below. It’s a demanding but unforgettable hike that showcases the rugged beauty of Colorado’s high country.

The Ouzel Lake Trail is a peaceful and scenic hike through the Wild Basin area of Rocky Mountain National Park, filled with waterfalls, forest, and alpine views.
Starting from the Wild Basin trailhead, the path follows North St. Vrain Creek through aspen and pine forest, with the sound of rushing water never far away. Along the way, you’ll pass a series of beautiful waterfalls — Copeland Falls, Calypso Cascades, and Ouzel Falls — each framed by mossy rock and cool mist. Beyond Ouzel Falls, the crowds thin as the trail climbs gently through open meadows and spruce forest toward Ouzel Lake.
The lake itself sits in a quiet basin surrounded by rugged peaks, with reflections of Mount Copeland and Ouzel Peak mirrored in the clear water. It’s an ideal spot for a rest or picnic before returning the same way. The combination of waterfalls, wildflowers, and mountain scenery makes this one of the most enjoyable moderate hikes in the park.

After an incredible week exploring the wild beauty of Utah, it’s time to pack your bags and begin your journey onwards. Transport will be arranged to take you to the airport, or back to Salt Lake City. It’s recommended not to book a flight too early on the final day to give us time to get you back to the airport.
If you’re extending your stay, there are plenty of incredible places to explore beyond the mountains. We’d be happy to share recommendations to help you make the most of your time.
As you leave Moab behind, you’ll take with you memories of redy canyons, desert lights, and unforgettable adventures in one of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes. Until next time!
Please note: The itinerary may be changed due to weather or trail closures. Your safety is always our upmost priority. Your local guide will always keep you updated on what’s coming the next day and if there are any changes.
EXCELLENT Based on 52 reviews Posted on Sarah GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Oman hiking trip and it was a great experience! The program was well structured, with an amazing international group with a good age mix. The accommodation felt very authentic and each day offered different landscapes and nature, so every hike felt unique. It was my first trip with Trailmates and I can highly recommend!Posted on R. I was looking for a mix of genuine adventure and a great community, and Trailmates delivered on both. The group was incredibly welcoming. It felt less like a formal tour and more like a trip with a group of friends. We didn't just see the mountains, we experienced Omani hospitality and authentic local food. Everything was well-organized. It was an adventure with an amazing group of people!Posted on Ruben VlekTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just returned from a great week in Oman! It was one of the few really authentic trips which I made, and the first with Trailmatesadventures. I liked the mixed group (32-62 yrs) of inspiring people. The whole trip was well organized, but with enough room for flexibility (e.g. alternative hikes, activities). I’ve never joined any group trips before, but this was very relaxed just having to book the trip and flight (and seeing various highlights without having to do the research).Posted on Oksana BolkinaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really enjoyable trip to Madeira, despite the unusual weather and unexpected flight cancellations. The hikes were great (our guide Paulo just amazing), and the orga on the island was very good. I didn’t have to worry about anything, which is exactly what I wanted for this trip.Posted on Peder OlesenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I very much enjoyed the hikes in beautiful Madeira. The company was excellent, and our guide André was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the week. If I had to point to anything that could be improved it'd be at the arrival at the apartments; it wasn't clear where luggage could be safely stored until check-in, so we needed to improvise a bit at that point. Also, the lock in the apartment door wasn't in the best condition. However, these very minor issues don't really subtract from what was overall a superb experience!Posted on samantha lambertTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My trip to Madeira was absolutely fantastic. I felt very safe with Andre as our guide, he was attentive and thoughtful, even adjusting some of the hikes to accommodate the group when the steep downhill sections proved challenging. The accommodation was great, especially the location, which was perfect for afternoon swims in the sea and easy access to restaurants in the evenings. I’d definitely consider booking again for a future adventure.Posted on Gillian OTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a fantastic time in Madeira, a really nice mix of hikes to see different parts of the island and the organisation was brilliant, loved it!Posted on Cesar izquierdoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Incredible experience in Madeira. Very well organized trip, professional guides, nice combination of hikes with different difficulty levels and varied landscapes. If you want and adventurous holiday with no worries about organizing it, try it!Posted on Karen AlgeoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Did the Moffat, Scotland trip lead by Gary and Tom. Had such a good time, gorgeous views and we got crazy lucky with the weather in September. The duo were super receptive and flexible to the group’s ability and morale, and were quick to think on their feet to adjust the itinerary to work better for us all. A lovely group of female hikers too. Would definitely book in again with them ❤️Posted on Maja De BritoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Scotland hiking trip. A top notch, 5-star experience from planning stage to saying goodbye with the group and the guides. Garry was immensly helpful with bits and pieces of information that made organising my traveling to Scotland and arriving to the meeting place a smooth and pleasant experience. Communication throught Whatsapp was effortless and always with a very quick reponse. I felt everything was taken care of, with a ready and helpful response for every inquiry or need. The hikes themselves were wonderful, both guides were very flexible and adapted to our level of fitness, but also our interests. Very grateful that we had the opportunity to see some off the beaten track routes. I have several food intolerances and this was never a limitation on this trip. There were always options, be it through the possibility of preparing my own food as well as having many choices eating out. I've been recommending their hikes to my friends and will definitely join for other destinations.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
