We will arrange transport to collect you from Marrakesh Airport and take you to the accommodation in Imlil in the Atlas Mountains, which is about a 1,5 hour drive. We will start our journey to the mountains in the afternoon (around 3pm). If you arrive earlier you can store your luggage in the city centre and use the time to explore Marrakesh. We can also recommend accommodation for the night before if you plan to arrive earlier. Imlil will be the base for the whole trip, which is great because you don’t need to carry all your stuff around and after a long day walking you know your warm shower and bed is awaiting you.

This classic out-and-back hike from Imlil, the gateway to Morocco’s High Atlas, follows the first stage of the Toubkal ascent route up to the white shrine of Sidi Chamharouch. The trail begins by winding through walnut groves and Berber villages before climbing steadily along the Mizane Valley.
Stone paths and mule tracks lead past terraces, small cafés, and streams fed by snowmelt from the peaks above. The white-domed shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, said to house a spiritual spring, marks the turnaround point — a lively spot where trekkers heading for Toubkal often rest before continuing higher.
From here, descend the same scenic route back to Imlil, with expansive views of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m) and the surrounding Atlas ridges. It’s an ideal acclimatisation hike or a rewarding half-day walk for those not venturing to the summit.
For those wanting a very challenging hike to reach the highest peak in Morocco, Mount Toubkal, we can help you arrange this add-on with a stay in the Toubkal refuge. This hike will also use up all of your free day requires a really good level of fitness. If you’re interested, just let me know after booking and we can help you arrange it.

Nestled in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, Imlil is the perfect retreat for those looking to take a break from hiking while still immersing themselves in the beauty of Morocco’s mountain culture. Wander through the charming village, where the scent of fresh mint tea drifts through the air and local Berbers welcome visitors with warm hospitality. Visit the Kasbah du Toubkal, a beautifully restored fortress offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and a glimpse into Berber traditions.
For a more relaxed experience, take a short drive to Asni, a traditional market town where locals gather every Saturday to trade fresh produce, handcrafted rugs, and pottery. Alternatively, explore the hidden valley of Azzaden, a peaceful haven dotted with walnut groves and traditional stone villages. If you’d rather unwind, enjoy a slow afternoon at a guesthouse terrace, sipping mint tea and watching the sun cast golden hues over the rugged landscape of the Atlas Mountains.

Starting from the village of Ouirgane (1,000 m), this scenic loop explores the heart of the Ouirgane Valley, one of the most beautiful foothill regions of Morocco’s High Atlas. The trail follows mule paths through olive groves and terraced fields before climbing gently toward Tikhfist, a traditional Berber hamlet surrounded by red hillsides and oak trees.
From Tikhfist, the route continues across undulating terrain to Anraz, where stone houses and narrow lanes overlook the broad Ouirgane basin. The panoramic ridge sections reveal striking contrasts between the valley’s lush farmland and the deep ochre slopes of the surrounding hills.
The descent returns to Ouirgane via quiet rural tracks and irrigation channels, with views stretching toward the snow-capped peaks of the central Atlas on clear days. It’s a rewarding half-day hike that blends village life, gentle mountain scenery, and classic Moroccan colours.

Beginning in the quiet village of Tagadirt Ait Ali, this trail climbs steadily through cultivated terraces and scattered juniper trees toward the open expanse of the Ifrd Plateau. The ascent offers broad views of the red and green valleys below, framed by the higher ridges of the Toubkal range.
From the plateau, the route continues across gently undulating ground before descending on a well-defined mule path toward the village of Imi Oughlad. The descent passes through olive groves and small farms, with fine views into the surrounding valleys.
Peaceful, scenic, and culturally rich, it captures the varied character of the western High Atlas foothills.

It’s time to pack your bags and head back to Marrakech. We arrange transport back to the airport so you can catch your flight home or continue to explore this majestical country. It’s better to book flights after 3pm so we have time to get you back to the airport from the mountains. We will also do one drop off in the centre right after the airport where you can leave your bags again. We have lots of recommendations if you’re going to spend more time in Morocco.
Please note: The itinerary may be changed due to weather or trail closures. Your safety is always our upmost priority. Your local guide will always keep you updated on what’s coming the next day and if there are any changes.
EXCELLENT Based on 52 reviews Posted on Sarah GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Oman hiking trip and it was a great experience! The program was well structured, with an amazing international group with a good age mix. The accommodation felt very authentic and each day offered different landscapes and nature, so every hike felt unique. It was my first trip with Trailmates and I can highly recommend!Posted on R. I was looking for a mix of genuine adventure and a great community, and Trailmates delivered on both. The group was incredibly welcoming. It felt less like a formal tour and more like a trip with a group of friends. We didn't just see the mountains, we experienced Omani hospitality and authentic local food. Everything was well-organized. It was an adventure with an amazing group of people!Posted on Ruben VlekTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just returned from a great week in Oman! It was one of the few really authentic trips which I made, and the first with Trailmatesadventures. I liked the mixed group (32-62 yrs) of inspiring people. The whole trip was well organized, but with enough room for flexibility (e.g. alternative hikes, activities). I’ve never joined any group trips before, but this was very relaxed just having to book the trip and flight (and seeing various highlights without having to do the research).Posted on Oksana BolkinaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really enjoyable trip to Madeira, despite the unusual weather and unexpected flight cancellations. The hikes were great (our guide Paulo just amazing), and the orga on the island was very good. I didn’t have to worry about anything, which is exactly what I wanted for this trip.Posted on Peder OlesenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I very much enjoyed the hikes in beautiful Madeira. The company was excellent, and our guide André was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the week. If I had to point to anything that could be improved it'd be at the arrival at the apartments; it wasn't clear where luggage could be safely stored until check-in, so we needed to improvise a bit at that point. Also, the lock in the apartment door wasn't in the best condition. However, these very minor issues don't really subtract from what was overall a superb experience!Posted on samantha lambertTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My trip to Madeira was absolutely fantastic. I felt very safe with Andre as our guide, he was attentive and thoughtful, even adjusting some of the hikes to accommodate the group when the steep downhill sections proved challenging. The accommodation was great, especially the location, which was perfect for afternoon swims in the sea and easy access to restaurants in the evenings. I’d definitely consider booking again for a future adventure.Posted on Gillian OTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a fantastic time in Madeira, a really nice mix of hikes to see different parts of the island and the organisation was brilliant, loved it!Posted on Cesar izquierdoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Incredible experience in Madeira. Very well organized trip, professional guides, nice combination of hikes with different difficulty levels and varied landscapes. If you want and adventurous holiday with no worries about organizing it, try it!Posted on Karen AlgeoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Did the Moffat, Scotland trip lead by Gary and Tom. Had such a good time, gorgeous views and we got crazy lucky with the weather in September. The duo were super receptive and flexible to the group’s ability and morale, and were quick to think on their feet to adjust the itinerary to work better for us all. A lovely group of female hikers too. Would definitely book in again with them ❤️Posted on Maja De BritoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Scotland hiking trip. A top notch, 5-star experience from planning stage to saying goodbye with the group and the guides. Garry was immensly helpful with bits and pieces of information that made organising my traveling to Scotland and arriving to the meeting place a smooth and pleasant experience. Communication throught Whatsapp was effortless and always with a very quick reponse. I felt everything was taken care of, with a ready and helpful response for every inquiry or need. The hikes themselves were wonderful, both guides were very flexible and adapted to our level of fitness, but also our interests. Very grateful that we had the opportunity to see some off the beaten track routes. I have several food intolerances and this was never a limitation on this trip. There were always options, be it through the possibility of preparing my own food as well as having many choices eating out. I've been recommending their hikes to my friends and will definitely join for other destinations.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
