We will arrange transport to collect you from Muscat Airport and take you to the accommodation in Al Hamra, which is about a 2 hour drive. We advise to arrive in the morning or afternoon so you have time to settle in to your new home for the week. We can also recommend accommodation for the night before if you plan to arrive earlier. Al Hamra will be the base for the whole trip, which is great because you don’t need to carry all your stuff around and after a long day walking you know your warm shower and bed is awaiting you.

This iconic hike takes you along the rim of Oman’s “Grand Canyon,” offering jaw-dropping views at every turn. The trail follows an old donkey path that winds along the edge of Jebel Shams, leading to the abandoned village of Sab Bani Khamis, a cluster of stone houses dramatically perched above the canyon floor. The path is well-trodden and relatively flat, making it a great option for hikers of all levels. As you walk along the dramatic cliffs, you’ll see sheer drops into the vast Wadi Nakhr below, a sight that rivals any famous canyon in the world. The Balcony Walk is Oman’s most famous hike for a reason!

Step back in time as you hike through Wadi Ghul, one of Oman’s most historically rich landscapes. This trail takes you past centuries-old abandoned stone villages that once housed Omani mountain communities. As you walk, you’ll encounter terraced fields, crumbling houses, and a peaceful silence that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a lost world. Unlike the Balcony Walk, this hike is much less frequented, allowing for a more remote and immersive experience. The changing light over the rugged cliffs and deep valley below creates an ever-shifting panorama, making this a dream for photographers and history lovers alike.

For thrill-seekers, Snake Canyon is the ultimate adventure hike. This dramatic slot canyon, nestled within Wadi Bani Awf, offers a mix of scrambling, bouldering, and wading through cool mountain pools. The canyon walls rise high above you, creating a surreal, almost mystical atmosphere. As you navigate through narrow rock corridors and plunge into natural pools, you’ll feel like an explorer uncovering one of Oman’s best-kept secrets. The hike starts from the stunning village of Bilad Sayt, a postcard-perfect settlement surrounded by towering peaks, and descends into the rugged terrain of the wadi. Expect an adrenaline-filled experience unlike any other!
A chance to explore, unwind, or discover something new. Nestled at the foot of the towering Al Hajar Mountains, Al Hamra offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and relaxation for those looking to take a break from hiking. Wander through the old town’s maze of traditional mudbrick houses, one of Oman’s best-preserved historical villages, where time seems to stand still. Visit the Bait Al Safah Museum, where you can experience Omani traditions firsthand, from coffee-making to pottery.
For a more relaxed experience, take a short drive to Jabreen Castle, one of Oman’s most beautiful and well-preserved forts, offering incredible views and a glimpse into the country’s rich past. Alternatively, explore the bustling souq in nearby Nizwa, where you can shop for handcrafted silver, pottery, and local dates. If you’d rather unwind, enjoy a peaceful afternoon at a traditional Omani guesthouse with fresh dates, coffee, and stunning mountain views.

This hike offers an incredible transition from lush, green landscapes to high-altitude mountain views. Starting in Misfat Al Abriyeen, one of Oman’s most picturesque villages, the trail leads you through date plantations, ancient falaj irrigation channels, and winding stone pathways. As you climb higher into the Al Hajar Mountains, the views become increasingly dramatic, with deep valleys opening up below you. The final section takes you to Sharaf Al Alamayn, a stunning mountain pass where you’ll feel on top of the world. A perfect blend of culture and nature, this hike takes you through the terraced farming villages of Jebel Akhdar, Oman’s Green Mountain. The trail weaves through ancient settlements, lush fruit orchards, and traditional rose gardens, offering a rare glimpse into Omani mountain life. The scenery is a unique mix of deep gorges and fertile green terraces, with spectacular viewpoints at every turn. Unlike the dry, rocky landscapes of Jebel Shams, Jebel Akhdar is known for its cooler climate and rich vegetation, making this hike especially enjoyable during warmer months.
